On 28 May 2026, the Agricultural University of Athens successfully hosted the Greek TECHCOACH Innovation Bootcamp, bringing together farmers, researchers, advisors, students, and innovation stakeholders for a dynamic day dedicated to collaboration, creativity, and innovation in Smart Farming.
The event created a unique space where participants from different backgrounds could exchange knowledge, discuss real agricultural challenges, and co-create practical solutions for the future of agriculture.
Tackling Key Challenges for Smart Farming Adoption
The Innovation Bootcamp focused on four key challenges that directly influence the adoption of Smart Crop Farming technologies and innovative agricultural practices:
- Strengthening advisory and support services for farmers
- Connecting farmers with technology providers and industry experts
- Facilitating the adoption of Smart Farming technologies
- Developing affordable Smart Farming solutions for small-scale farms
Working in multidisciplinary teams, participants combined their expertise and perspectives to explore innovative approaches, identify barriers, and develop practical concepts capable of addressing current needs within the agricultural sector.

The Winning Innovation Idea
One of the most exciting moments of the day was the presentation of the teams’ final concepts. The winning idea emerged from the challenge focused on developing affordable Smart Farming solutions for small-scale farms. The team proposed a smart, low-cost incubator for the autonomous on-site production of beneficial insects.
This innovative concept aims to support more sustainable crop protection practices while making biological control solutions more accessible to small agricultural holdings. By enabling farmers to produce beneficial insects directly on their farms, the solution has the potential to reduce costs, promote environmentally friendly practices, and improve the accessibility of sustainable crop management methods.
The TECHCOACH Innovation Bootcamp demonstrated the importance of bringing together diverse stakeholders to co-create solutions that respond to real-world agricultural needs.
